Noor Takaful car insurance is Sharia-compliant motor cover sold in the UAE by Noor Takaful General PJSC, which was renamed Watania Takaful General after its parent merged with National Takaful Company (Watania) PJSC. The insurer is regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE and its motor policies follow the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy, so the third-party minimums are the same as every other UAE insurer. What differs is the takaful model behind them, the Platinum tier's concierge services, and the claims experience. This page reviews all three, and you can compare car insurance quotes online in Dubai to see how the premium lands against other UAE insurers before you commit.
Yes, but not under the Noor Takaful name. Noor Takaful General PJSC — the entity that wrote motor and non-motor cover — was renamed Watania Takaful General, and Noor Takaful Family PJSC became Watania Takaful Family. Both changes were announced by their sole shareholder, Dar Al Takaful, which had itself merged with National Takaful Company (Watania) PJSC in July 2022 and rebranded as Watania International Holding PJSC in 2023.
In practice, that means three things for a policyholder. An existing Noor Takaful certificate remains valid until its expiry date; renewal paperwork and correspondence will carry the Watania name; and the customer service, claims and garage networks are now run as one operation.
Choose Noor Takaful (Watania Takaful General) if Sharia compliance is a decision-maker for you and you want a takaful operator with a genuinely large approved-garage network. Look elsewhere if fast claim settlement is your single most important criterion. That is the trade-off this insurer presents, and it is worth being direct about it.
The strongest arguments in its favour are structural rather than promotional. It runs a full takaful model — risk is shared across the pool of participants rather than transferred to a shareholder-owned insurer, and there is no interest (riba) in the contract. Its approved-garage network is one of the larger ones in the market, which matters far more day-to-day than a headline premium, because it determines where you can get a cashless repair. And the Platinum tier bundles services most UAE motor policies charge for separately.
The criticism is consistent and worth taking seriously. Public reviews cluster on two complaints: outdated branch location data on Google Maps, and slow claims processing. The first is an administrative annoyance. The second is not — if you have had one accident in three years and the settlement took a fortnight, that is the experience you remember. Read reviews for the insurer alongside its peers rather than in isolation; our roundup of the best car insurance companies in Dubai puts the same criteria against the wider market.
Noor Takaful motor insurance comes in three tiers. The first two are the standard UAE split; the third is a high-value product aimed at expensive vehicles.
The legal minimum. It pays for injury or damage your vehicle causes to other people, their vehicles and their property, and pays nothing toward your own car. It can be extended with add-ons covering theft, fire, vandalism and windscreen damage. If you are weighing the legal minimum against fuller cover, our guide to third-party car insurance sets out what it does and does not reach.
Covers damage to your own vehicle as well as your third-party liability, and is the tier most UAE drivers with a financed or recent car end up on. Roadside assistance and off-road cover can be added. See how the tier works across the market in our explainer on comprehensive car insurance.
The top tier, built around convenience services rather than extra indemnity. It adds annual car registration renewal, unlimited off-road assistance, an annual airport pick-up or drop-off, an annual document delivery service, and one automobile service a year. Unlimited off-road assistance is the substantive difference — on the lower tiers, desert driving is an add-on or is not covered at all.

On a comprehensive certificate, the policy responds to four categories of loss.
Add-ons are priced separately and are worth costing individually rather than as a bundle — on most UAE policies, two or three of them account for nearly all the extra premium.
| Add-on | What it does | Worth it when |
|---|---|---|
| Off-road protection | Extends cover to desert and dune driving; included on Platinum | You drive a 4x4 off tarmac — without it, desert damage is excluded |
| Agency repair | Repairs at the authorised dealer using genuine parts | The car is under three years old or still under manufacturer warranty |
| Rental car cover | Provides a replacement vehicle while yours is being repaired | You have no second car and a repair would leave you without transport |
| Zero depreciation | Waives the deduction for parts wear when a claim is settled | The car is new — the depreciation deduction is largest in the first years |
| Oman extension | Extends territorial cover for cross-border trips into Oman | You drive to Muscat or Musandam; UAE-only cover stops at the border |
| Windscreen cover | Repairs or replaces glass without touching your no-claims record | You do highway mileage, where stone chips are routine |
Every UAE motor policy carries these exclusions, and they are the most common reason a claim is declined.
Comprehensive cover in the UAE is normally restricted by vehicle age. Most insurers stop offering it once a car passes a threshold — commonly seven years, with some writing to ten on a case-by-case basis — after which third-party liability is the only option available. Noor Takaful applies its own limit, which is confirmed at quotation rather than published.
Beyond vehicle age, three factors decide whether a quote is offered and at what price: how long you have held a UAE driving licence, your claims history over the past one to three years, and the declared market value of the car. A licence held for under a year and a recent at-fault claim are the two things most likely to push a comprehensive quote out of reach.
These two mechanisms decide what you actually pay, and they are the ones drivers most often misunderstand.
The no-claims discount (NCD) is a reduction applied to your renewal premium for each consecutive claim-free year. In the UAE it typically starts at around 10% after one clear year and can reach 20% or more after three. It is tied to you rather than the vehicle, so it usually survives changing cars — but it is normally lost after an at-fault claim, and a claim-free certificate from your previous insurer is the evidence you need to carry it across.
The excess, also called the deductible, is the fixed amount you pay toward every own-damage claim before the insurer pays anything. A higher voluntary excess lowers your premium; a lower one raises it. The arithmetic is worth doing rather than defaulting: if raising the excess by AED 500 saves less than AED 500 a year, it only pays off in years you do not claim.
There is no fixed price. UAE comprehensive motor premiums generally run between roughly 1.5% and 3% of the vehicle's declared market value per year, with third-party liability priced as a flat band by vehicle category. On a car valued at AED 80,000, that range implies an annual comprehensive premium somewhere around AED 1,200 to AED 2,400 before add-ons — a spread wide enough that the only number worth acting on is a real quote.
Five things move the figure: the declared value of the car, its age, your claims history, how long you have held a UAE licence, and which add-ons you attach. Agency repair and off-road protection are usually the two most expensive options. Because takaful and conventional insurers rate these factors differently, the same driver can see materially different quotes across the market, which is the case for comparing rather than renewing on autopilot.
You can buy a Noor Takaful or Watania certificate through Lookinsure without visiting a branch. The whole flow takes a few minutes if your documents are already on your phone.
Renewal runs through the same platform. Select Get Quotes, choose Renew, enter your vehicle details, check that your information is still current, and pay to complete. Renewing early is worth a moment's thought: cover cannot lapse between certificates, because driving uninsured in the UAE is an offence and a gap can also cost you the no-claims discount you have built up.
Yes, Noor Takaful car insurance can be paid in instalments when you buy through Lookinsure. The premium is split into four interest-free payments using car insurance with Tabby or Tamara car insurance, which keeps the buy-now-pay-later structure consistent with the takaful principle of avoiding interest.
The practical effect is that it changes which plan you can afford. Drivers who would default to third-party liability on cash flow grounds frequently move up to comprehensive once the cost is spread across four payments. Full terms are set out on our page covering how to pay car insurance in instalments. Tabby and Tamara are payment options offered by Lookinsure, not by the insurer.
Claims can be filed online, by WhatsApp, or by calling customer service. The online route is three steps.
Straightforward claims are settled in around 7 to 10 working days. The single biggest cause of delay is a missing or incomplete police report, which is mandatory for every motor claim in the UAE — get it at the scene, not afterwards.
A cashless repair means the insurer settles directly with the workshop and you pay only your excess. That only works at a garage on the approved list, so it is worth checking before you book anything — the current network is set out in the Watania Takaful approved garage list. If you are comparing networks across insurers before you buy, the consolidated UAE insurance garage list covers the whole market.

The insurer operates five branches across the three emirates, with its head office in Dubai. Because reviewers have repeatedly reported outdated branch addresses on Google Maps, call ahead before travelling to one — and note that buying, renewing and claiming can all be completed online, so a branch visit is rarely necessary. If you are shopping by emirate rather than by insurer, our pages for car insurance in Abu Dhabi and car insurance in Sharjah cover what each market offers.
Noor Takaful is one of several Sharia-compliant motor insurers operating in the UAE. If the takaful model is what you are looking for rather than this insurer specifically, these are the alternatives worth quoting against, and our overview of takaful car insurance in the UAE explains how the structure differs from conventional cover.
