Liva car insurance is motor cover sold in the UAE by Liva Insurance B.S.C. (c), the insurer that was trading as RSA until 2023. It comes in three tiers: Motor Executive and Motor Smart are comprehensive, and Motor Value is third-party liability only. All three include Oman cover and AED 200,000 personal accident cover for the driver and passengers.
The company's UAE business began as Royal & Sun Alliance, the London-listed insurer, and traded here as RSA Middle East for decades. In 2023 it merged with the NLGIC Group and the combined business was renamed Liva Insurance. The policy wordings, garage network and claims process carried over unchanged — only the name on the certificate changed. If you searched for RSA car insurance or Royal & Sun Alliance car insurance and landed here, this is the same insurer. You can compare car insurance quotes online in the UAE and see Liva alongside every other licensed insurer in one list.
Liva is licensed and supervised by the Central Bank of the UAE, which took over insurance regulation from the Insurance Authority in 2020. Its third-party section follows the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy, the standard wording every UAE motor insurer must use — which is why third-party bodily injury cover is unlimited on all three Liva tiers rather than capped.
If you hold an RSA car insurance policy, or you are renewing one, nothing about your cover has changed — the certificate now says Liva. RSA insurance in the UAE traded under three names over its life here: Royal & Sun Alliance, then RSA Middle East, and since 2023 Liva. Royal & Sun Alliance car insurance and Liva car insurance are the same product line under the same underwriter, and the same claims number, 800 774, still applies.
Liva suits drivers who want to choose their level of cover rather than take one fixed package — from premium comprehensive with agency repairs down to third-party liability that still carries full driver and passenger accident cover.
| Liva may be a good fit if you want… | Why |
|---|---|
| Oman cover included | Territorial extension to Oman on all three tiers |
| Agency repairs | Executive tier; Smart tier gets 2 years free agency |
| A replacement car during repairs | Temporary rent-a-car included on Smart and Executive |
| 24/7 roadside assistance | Included on Smart and Executive; optional add-on on Value |
| Cover for belongings left in the car | Up to AED 5,000 on Smart and Executive |
| Lock and key replacement | Up to AED 5,000 on Smart and Executive |
| A brand-new car after an early total loss | New vehicle replacement within the first 6 months on Smart and Executive |
| Fast claim approval | Target of 1 working day once documents are submitted |
Is Liva insurance good? On cover, yes — it is one of the few UAE insurers that puts AED 200,000 of driver and passenger accident cover and a AED 3,500,000 third-party property damage limit into its base third-party product, not just its comprehensive one. On price it is mid-market rather than cheap, and the comparisons further down this page show exactly where it loses on premium.
Liva sells three motor products. Motor Executive and Motor Smart are both comprehensive car insurance and cover damage to your own car; Motor Value is third-party car insurance and does not. Executive adds agency repairs, GCC cover and no-claims-discount protection on top of Smart. If you are still deciding between the two cover types, the practical differences are set out in our guide to comprehensive vs third-party cover.

Choose Executive if your car is under two years old and you want it repaired at the manufacturer's dealer. Choose Smart if you want comprehensive cover at a competitive price and can accept a workshop repair. Choose Value if your car is old enough that own-damage cover is not worth the premium, but you still want the AED 200,000 accident cover for the people in it.
Note: the AED 1,800 and AED 1,300 premiums are quotes obtained through Lookinsure in 2026 for a 2018 Nissan Altima. Your own premium will differ by vehicle, declared value, driver history and add-ons.
On third-party cover Liva is the most expensive of these three and the most generous. Its AED 1,300 premium buys an AED 3,500,000 property damage limit, AED 200,000 each for driver and passengers, roadside assistance and Oman cover at base price — none of which Methaq car insurance confirms at AED 675. Third-party policies carry no insured vehicle value, so unlike the comprehensive table below, this is a straight like-for-like comparison.
| Third-party comparison point | Liva (Motor Value) | Methaq Takaful | Tokio Marine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic premium (2018 Nissan Altima, quoted 2026) | AED 1,300 | AED 675 | AED 1,010 |
| Third-party bodily injury or death | Unlimited | Unlimited | Covered |
| Third-party property damage | AED 3,500,000 | Up to AED 2,000,000 | Covered |

| Passenger accident cover | AED 200,000 (included) | Not specified | AED 200,000 |
| Ambulance services | AED 6,770 (included) | Included (ambulance and urgent treatment) | Included |
| 24/7 roadside assistance | Included | Optional (+AED 14) | Included |
| Oman cover | Included | Not specified | Not specified (own damage only) |
| No-claims discount | Included | Not specified | Not specified |
| Loyalty discount | Not specified | Not specified | Included |
| Quotation validity | 30 days | — | — |
You are paying roughly AED 625 more than Methaq for a property damage limit 75% higher and confirmed accident cover for everyone in the car. If you drive a full car, or into Oman, that is worth it. If you drive alone in a low-value car and want the cheapest legal cover, it is not.
Liva's Motor Smart sits between Methaq and Tokio Marine on price. Read the insured-value row before the premium row: the three quotes below were issued at materially different declared values, so the premiums are not directly comparable.
| Comprehensive comparison point | Liva (Motor Smart) | Methaq Takaful | Tokio Marine |

On these three 2026 quotes, comprehensive premiums ran between 3.5% and 8.2% of the declared vehicle value. That spread is the single most useful number on this page, because it is the only way to compare quotes issued at different insured values.
Liva's AED 1,800 covers a declared value of AED 21,835 — 8.24% of the car's insured value. Methaq's AED 1,260 covers AED 36,200, or 3.48%. On this quote Methaq is both cheaper in cash and insuring 66% more of the car, so on comprehensive cover Methaq wins outright and Liva does not. Liva's case rests on what the premium includes: accident cover for driver and passengers, a AED 3,500,000 property damage limit, Oman cover, agency repairs and a replacement car, none of which Methaq confirms at its price. Before you decide, re-run both quotes at the same declared value — a Liva quote at AED 36,200 will cost more than AED 1,800, and that is the number to compare.
Choose Methaq if premium is your deciding factor — it is the cheapest of the three on both third-party and comprehensive, and it is the only Takaful option here. Choose Liva if you carry passengers, drive into Oman, or want the highest third-party property damage limit, and you accept paying a mid-market premium for it. Choose Tokio Marine car insurance if you want a long replacement-vehicle period and a renewal loyalty discount from a global brand.
| Your priority | What to check | Our recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest third-party premium | Basic premium | Methaq — AED 675 |
| Best third-party driver and passenger cover | Accident cover limits | Liva or Tokio Marine — AED 200,000 each |
| Highest third-party property damage limit | Coverage amount | Liva — AED 3,500,000 |
| Lowest comprehensive premium | Base price and insured value together | Methaq — AED 1,260 at a higher insured value |
| Best value per dirham of cover | Premium as a share of insured value | Methaq — 3.48% versus Liva's 8.24% |
| Best comprehensive driver and passenger cover | Accident cover limits | Liva — AED 200,000 each |
| Agency repairs | Availability and duration | Liva — 2 years free agency on Smart, included on Executive |
| Oman cover included | Territorial extension | Liva — included on all three tiers |
| A replacement car during repairs | Days and eligibility | Tokio Marine for length (15–20 days); Liva for inclusion at base price |
| Cover for belongings and locks | Coverage amount | Liva — AED 5,000 each |
| Takaful-compliant cover | Sharia compliance | Methaq |
| Renewal loyalty discount | Renewal saving | Tokio Marine |
| Driver under 25 | Additional excess | No advantage — all three apply an extra young-driver excess |
| Most benefits included at base price | Total included benefits | Liva |
Liva, Methaq and Tokio Marine are the three compared above because they are the closest match on tier structure and price band. They are not the only options, and on any given vehicle a different insurer often comes out cheapest. These are also licensed in the UAE and worth putting into the same comparison:
Liva's headline benefit is that it puts AED 200,000 of personal accident cover for driver and passengers into every tier, including third-party. Its other differentiators are Oman cover on all tiers and roadside assistance cover at base price on the two comprehensive tiers.
| Benefit or add-on | What it means | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Driver accident cover | Financial protection for the driver — AED 200,000 | Smart, Value |
| Passenger accident cover | Covers passengers injured in an accident — AED 200,000 | Smart, Value |
| Third-party liability (bodily injury) | Covers injury or death caused to others — unlimited | All tiers |
| Third-party property damage | Covers damage to another vehicle or property — AED 3,500,000 | All tiers |
| Own damage cover | Covers damage to the insured vehicle | Executive, Smart |
| Agency repairs | Repairs at the manufacturer's authorised dealer | Executive (included), Smart (2 years free) |
| Temporary rent-a-car | Rental vehicle while your car is being repaired | Executive, Smart |
| 24/7 roadside assistance | Towing, flat tyre, battery boost, fuel delivery, lockout and off-road recovery in the UAE and Oman | Executive, Smart (included); Value (optional) |
| Ambulance cost | National ambulance service cover — up to AED 6,770 | All tiers |
| Oman cover | Territorial extension to Oman (Orange Card still needed for third-party) | All tiers |
| Loss of personal items | Belongings inside the vehicle — up to AED 5,000 | Executive, Smart |
| Replacement of locks | Key and lock replacement — up to AED 5,000 | Executive, Smart |
| New vehicle replacement | A brand-new replacement if the car is a total loss within the first 6 months | Executive, Smart |
| Taxi fares | Cab fare cover — up to AED 300 | Executive, Smart |
| Emergency medical expenses | Medical-expense support — up to AED 3,500 | Executive, Smart |
| Emergency repairs | Immediate roadside repair cover — up to AED 1,000 | Executive, Smart |
| Windscreen protection | Covers windscreen repair or replacement | Executive, Smart |
| Perils of nature, riot, strike, civil commotion | Extended cover for natural events and civil unrest | Executive, Smart |
| Driving another car | Cover while driving a vehicle you do not own | Executive, Smart |
| Garage and valet parking | Cover for incidents at garages or valet parking | Executive, Smart |
| Personal injury cover | Additional injury protection — up to AED 20,000 | Smart |
| Off-road cover | Damage while driving off-road — 4WD only, excluding safari | Executive |
| GCC countries cover | Territorial extension to other GCC countries (own damage only) | Executive |
| No-claims discount | Renewal discount for claim-free years | All tiers |
| No-claims discount protection | Keeps your discount intact after a claim | Executive |
| Young driver excess | An additional 10% excess if the driver is under 25 | All tiers, where applicable |
Two of these are worth singling out. Windscreen cover is included on both comprehensive tiers rather than sold as an add-on, which is not universal in the UAE market. And no-claims discount protection is Executive-only — on Smart and Value a claim resets your discount, so if you have built up several claim-free years it is worth checking what your no-claim bonus is actually worth before you claim for minor damage.
Oman cover is included on all three Liva tiers, but it does not on its own make you legal in Oman. Own-damage cover extends across the border automatically; third-party liability inside Oman requires a separate Orange Card, which you must obtain before you leave the UAE.
This is the most common gap drivers hit at the Hatta and Al Ain crossings: the policy says Oman is covered, the driver assumes that is the whole answer, and the third-party section is not in force on the Omani side. If you are planning the trip, our guide on how to get an Orange Card for Oman covers what it costs, how long it takes and which documents you need. Liva's 24/7 roadside assistance number, 600 544060, works in Oman as well as the UAE on Smart and Executive policies.
Liva's exclusions follow the standard UAE pattern with a few insurer-specific additions around vehicle modifications and specification. The list below applies subject to your policy schedule and tier — for the exclusions that appear in almost every UAE motor policy, see our reference on standard car insurance exclusions in the UAE.
These are the excess loadings that most often surprise Liva policyholders at claim time. Each is a percentage added on top of the standard excess, so if you are not clear how excess works, read what an insurance excess is before you buy.
| Condition | Details |
|---|---|
| Young driver additional excess | If the driver at the time of the accident is under 25, an additional 10% deductible applies |
| Factory-modified vehicles additional excess | 15% additional excess |
| Non-factory-modified vehicles additional excess | 20% additional excess |
| Sports car additional excess | 15% additional excess, where sports excess is listed on the schedule or the car is electric |
| Total additional excess | Where several loadings apply, the highest percentage applies, plus the standard excess |
| Quotation validity | Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue |
| Oman cover restriction | An Orange Card must be obtained before leaving the UAE for third-party cover inside Oman |
You do not need to visit Liva to buy a Liva policy. Get a car insurance quote and Liva appears in the same list as every other licensed UAE insurer, priced for your exact vehicle, so you can see whether its tiers are competitive for your car before committing.
Renewing Liva motor insurance through Lookinsure takes four steps, and renewal is the point at which switching costs you nothing — so it is worth re-comparing rather than auto-renewing.
Open your quote on Lookinsure and enter your plate or vehicle details.
Apply any discounts you have earned, including your no-claims discount for claim-free years.
Adjust your cover — add or remove add-ons, or move between Motor Executive, Smart and Value as your car ages.
Pay by card, or in four installments with Tabby or Tamara.
One thing to check at renewal: as your car depreciates, the premium you pay as a share of its declared value rises. A comprehensive policy that made sense at AED 36,000 of insured value often does not at AED 15,000 — that is usually the point to move from Motor Smart to Motor Value.
What Liva asks for depends on how you are buying. The requirements are the UAE market standard, set out in full in our guide to the documents required for car insurance in the UAE.
Requirements can vary with insurer checks, vehicle specification and policy type. Electronic copies are accepted for online applications.
You can pay for Liva insurance in installments when you buy through Lookinsure — four payments instead of one, at no extra premium. That is what usually decides the Motor Smart versus Motor Value question: AED 450 a month is a different decision from AED 1,800 up front. Both pay for car insurance with Tabby and split car insurance payments with Tamara are available at checkout.
| Policy type | Total premium (estimate) | Example first payment (4 installments) | Remaining payments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Liva Motor Value (third-party) | AED 1,300 | Approx. AED 325 | 3 payments of approx. AED 325 |
| Liva Motor Smart (comprehensive) | AED 1,800 | Approx. AED 450 | 3 payments of approx. AED 450 |
Installment availability depends on provider approval and eligibility at checkout. Premiums vary by vehicle, driver history and add-ons.
Liva targets claim approval within 1 working day once all documents are submitted. You can start a Liva insurance claim by phone on 800 774, by email at [email protected], or online at livainsurance.ae/car/make-claim.
Important: where repair costs exceed a certain threshold, the third party's insurer may need to be notified and may take time to inspect the vehicle. This follows the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy rather than a Liva-specific rule.
The single most common reason a UAE motor claim stalls is a missing or mismatched police report. Our walkthrough on filing a car accident insurance claim in the UAE covers what the report must say and what to do if the other driver disputes liability.
| Required document | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Copy of driving licence | Confirms the driver was eligible to drive |
| Vehicle registration card (Mulkiya) | Verifies vehicle ownership and registration |
| Police report | Mandatory for accident verification |
| Milestone | Target |
|---|---|
| Claim approval, once all documents are submitted | Within 1 working day |
| Full settlement | Depends on repair duration and claim complexity |
Compliance note: submitting a claim does not mean liability has been accepted. Final approval depends on the policy terms, the documents submitted, the circumstances of the accident and the assessment. Any applicable excess is payable at the time of claim.
Where your car gets repaired is decided by your tier, not by you. Motor Executive policyholders go to authorised agency workshops. Motor Smart and Motor Value policyholders go to Liva's approved garage network, which covers Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. Wait for claim approval and garage assignment before taking the car anywhere.
Liva's approved network runs to around 17 workshops across five emirates, and it is weighted towards Dubai — Al Quoz and Al Qusais carry most of it, with Musaffah covering Abu Dhabi. If you are buying Liva car insurance in Dubai you have the widest choice of approved workshops; in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah there is one each, which is worth knowing before a claim. For the current list with addresses and phone numbers, see the Liva (RSA) approved garage list, which is kept updated as the network changes.
| Repair type | Eligibility | Key features |
|---|---|---|
| Agency repairs | Motor Executive; Motor Smart for the first 2 years | Repairs at the manufacturer's authorised dealer, using genuine parts |
| Approved garage network | Motor Smart and Motor Value | Repairs at approved workshops across five emirates |

If you are comparing insurers by emirate rather than by brand, start here:
Liva car insurance is UAE motor cover from Liva Insurance B.S.C. (c), the insurer that traded as RSA until its 2023 merger with the NLGIC Group. It comes in three tiers — Motor Executive and Motor Smart are comprehensive, Motor Value is third-party only. All three include Oman cover and AED 200,000 accident cover for driver and passengers.
Yes. RSA Middle East, part of Royal & Sun Alliance, merged with the NLGIC Group in 2023 and the combined company was renamed Liva Insurance. It is the same insurer, the same policy wordings and the same approved garage network — only the name printed on the insurance certificate changed.
On a 2026 quote for a 2018 Nissan Altima, Liva Motor Value third-party cover was AED 1,300 and Motor Smart comprehensive was AED 1,800 at AED 21,835 insured value. That is roughly 8.2% of declared value. Your premium depends on your vehicle, its declared value, your claims history and any add-ons.
Yes. Compare Liva quotes against other licensed UAE insurers on Lookinsure, upload your Emirates ID, driving licence and vehicle registration, and pay online — in full or in four installments with Tabby or Tamara. The policy is issued after approval and the digital copy is emailed to you.
Yes, on Motor Smart and Motor Executive at base price, and on Motor Value as an optional add-on. The 24/7 number is 600 544060 and it covers towing, flat tyres, battery boosts, fuel delivery, lockouts and off-road recovery in both the UAE and Oman. There is no separate charge on the two comprehensive tiers.
Oman cover is included on all three Liva tiers, but you still need an Orange Card for third-party liability inside Oman, obtained before you leave the UAE. Own-damage cover extends across the border automatically; the third-party section does not. Without the Orange Card you are not legal on the Omani side.
Call 800 774 (Monday to Saturday, 09:00 to 17:00), email [email protected], or file online at livainsurance.ae/car/make-claim. You need a copy of your driving licence, the vehicle registration card (Mulkiya) and the police report. Liva targets approval within 1 working day once all documents are in.
It depends on your tier. Motor Executive policyholders use authorised agency workshops; Motor Smart and Motor Value policyholders use Liva's approved network of around 17 garages across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. Always wait for claim approval and garage assignment before taking the car in.
Yes. Enter your plate details on Lookinsure, apply your no-claims discount for claim-free years, adjust your cover or move between tiers, and pay by card or in four installments. Renewal is the point at which switching insurer costs you nothing, so it is worth re-comparing rather than auto-renewing.
