The GIG garage list is the network of independent workshops that GIG Gulf — the UAE insurer formerly known as AXA Gulf — authorises to carry out insured motor repairs. There are 19 approved locations across five emirates: Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. GIG Gulf does not publish this network as a public directory, which is why most drivers only discover which workshop they can use after an accident has already happened.

This page sets out the approved workshops emirate by emirate, explains how cashless repair actually works, and shows you how to confirm a garage is still on the network before you tow your car anywhere. There are no approved workshops in Ajman or Umm Al Quwain. Drivers in those emirates are normally directed to the Sharjah network, which is the closest cluster.

What is a GIG Gulf approved garage?

A GIG Gulf approved garage is a workshop that has a standing repair agreement with the insurer, allowing it to inspect a damaged vehicle, submit a repair estimate directly to GIG Gulf, and begin work once approval comes back. The agreement is what makes cashless repair possible: the workshop invoices the insurer rather than the driver.

These workshops are independent businesses, not GIG Gulf branches. They are approved for insured repairs specifically, which is a narrower thing than being a good garage in general — approval reflects the commercial agreement, the workshop’s ability to work to insurer estimates, and its capacity for the vehicle types the policy covers. A GIG car insurance policy determines which of them you can actually use.

GIG Gulf is regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE and has traded under the GIG Gulf name since 20 July 2022, when AXA Gulf completed its rebrand. Policies and repair networks carried over unchanged at that point, so older AXA documentation still refers to the same network described here.

GIG garages in Dubai

Dubai holds nine of the nineteen approved locations, and five of those sit inside Al Quoz Industrial Areas 3 and 4 — a single district that handles most insured bodywork in the emirate. GIG garages in Sharjah

Sharjah has the second-largest network with five approved workshops, spread across four numbered industrial areas plus University City. These are the workshops most often used for non-agency repairs on vehicles that are past their manufacturer warranty, and they also serve drivers holding car insurance in Sharjah who live closer to the northern emirates than to Dubai.

Abu Dhabi’s three approved workshops sit in Musaffah and the Industrial Area, the emirate’s established repair corridor. The network is smaller than Dubai’s, so confirming availability before towing matters more here — particularly for luxury and performance vehicles, which only one of the three is set up for. GIG garages in Fujairah

Fujairah has one approved workshop. With a single point of access in the emirate, GIG Gulf may direct you to a Sharjah or Dubai workshop instead if the damage needs specialist bodywork or parts that Al Hail cannot source. That is a normal outcome, not a refusal — but it does mean towing distance is worth confirming before the vehicle moves. Holders of car insurance in Fujairah should expect this.

Agency repair or non-agency repair: which one applies to you?

This is the single distinction that decides whether the garage list above is relevant to your claim at all. GIG Gulf splits its motor cover into plans that repair at manufacturer dealerships and plans that repair at approved workshops — the network on this page is the second kind.

The straightforward rule: if your car is still under manufacturer warranty or is on finance, take agency repair; if it is out of warranty, non-agency repair at an approved workshop is almost always the better value. Agency cover is generally offered on comprehensive car insurance only. It is not available on third party car insurance, which does not repair your own vehicle at all — third-party cover pays for damage you cause to someone else.

How cashless repair works at a GIG garage

Cashless repair means the approved workshop bills GIG Gulf directly for the authorised repair, so you do not pay the repair cost and then wait to be reimbursed. You still pay your policy excess, and you still pay for anything the insurer has not authorised.

Once you report the claim, the workshop inspects the vehicle, submits an estimate to GIG Gulf, and starts work when approval is returned. Because the estimate and approval move directly between two parties who already have an agreement, this is faster than the equivalent process at a workshop with no insurer relationship — where you would typically settle the invoice yourself and claim it back afterwards.

The excess is the part drivers most often miscalculate. It is set in your policy schedule, it applies per claim, and no cashless arrangement removes it. How to check a garage is approved before you go

Confirm the workshop with GIG Gulf before the vehicle is moved, not after. The network changes as service-provider agreements are renewed, and a workshop that was approved last year may not be on the current list.

1. Call GIG Gulf on 800 292 from inside the UAE, or +971 4 5074085 from abroad. Lines are open 8am to 6pm, every day.
2. Give your policy number and the workshop’s full name and area — several approved garages share a name across two locations, and Pal Auto Garage in Deira is a different site from Pal Auto Garage in Al Quoz.
3. Ask specifically whether the workshop is approved for your policy, not just whether it is on the network. Agency and non-agency plans do not open the same doors.
4. Get the authorisation reference in writing — by email or through the GIG Gulf customer portal — before the vehicle is towed.

Your policy schedule is the other source worth reading before you call. It states your excess, your repair type and any vehicle-specific conditions, and it will answer most of the questions above without a phone call. What happens if you use a garage that is not approved

Repairs carried out without prior authorisation can be settled partially or declined outright. The insurer’s position is that it never had the chance to inspect the damage or agree the cost, so it cannot verify what was repaired or what it should have cost.

In practice the outcomes range from a reduced settlement based on the insurer’s own estimate, through a delay while an assessor reviews the work retrospectively, to a full rejection where the repair was never reported at all. Unauthorised repair is one of the more common grounds among the reasons car insurance claims get rejected in the UAE.

It is also worth knowing what the network is not for. Approved garages handle accident damage covered by your policy; they do not turn a claim into a free service. Wear and tear, mechanical failure and cosmetic damage sit outside most motor claims — see whether scratches and dents are covered, and consider mechanical breakdown cover if engine and gearbox failure is the risk you are worried about.

How to report a GIG Gulf motor claim

Report the claim before arranging any repair. Everything that follows — inspection, estimate, authorisation, cashless billing — depends on a claim file being open first.

1. Make the scene safe and get a police report. UAE traffic regulations require one for most accidents, and insurers request it before repairs are approved.
2. Notify GIG Gulf on 800 292 or through the customer portal, as soon as you reasonably can.
3. Submit the accident details and documents — date, time, location, a description of the damage, and the paperwork listed below.
4. Take the vehicle to the workshop GIG Gulf directs you to from the approved network, based on your policy, repair type and location.
5. Wait for the estimate to be authorised before repair work begins, then collect the vehicle once the workshop confirms completion.

Roadside assistance and getting the car to the garage

GIG Gulf roadside assistance runs on the same UAE number as everything else — 800 292 — and towing to an approved workshop is normally arranged through it rather than by the driver independently.

This matters more than it sounds. A driver who arranges their own recovery to a workshop of their choosing has often committed to a garage before the insurer has confirmed one, which is how vehicles end up at unapproved sites. If the car is not drivable, report the claim first and let the assistance line route the tow.
