GIG Gulf car insurance is the UAE motor insurance business of Gulf Insurance Group, sold in three plans — Comprehensive – Agency, Comprehensive – GIG Garage and Third Party — and regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE.
This page sets out what each plan covers, what it excludes, how renewal and claims work, and how to reach GIG on 800 292. When you are ready to price it against the rest of the market, you can compare car insurance quotes online in about two minutes.
GIG car insurance is motor cover underwritten by GIG Gulf, the UAE arm of Gulf Insurance Group, which describes itself as having protected the region for more than 70 years. Its motor range covers private vehicles under a comprehensive or third-party policy, with 24/7 roadside assistance included and optional extensions for Oman, the wider GCC and war risk.
GIG motor insurance is sold under four product names: Motor Prestige, Motor Perfect Plus, Motor Perfect and Motor Third Party. On GIG's own comparison table these appear in simplified form as Comprehensive – Agency, Comprehensive – GIG Garage and Third Party, which is the naming used throughout this page.
Yes. GIG Gulf is the rebranded identity of the business that traded in the UAE as AXA Gulf. If you are searching for AXA car insurance in Dubai or AXA car insurance in the UAE, GIG Gulf is the company you are looking for — the policy documents, contact numbers and customer portal now all carry the GIG Gulf name.
The table below reproduces GIG Gulf's own published table of benefits. Figures are in AED and were taken from GIG Gulf's third-party car insurance page in September 2026.

Which GIG plan to choose. The right plan is set by the age and value of the car, not by the premium.
The same three-way choice exists at every UAE insurer, so it is worth reading the general explainers before you settle on a plan level. Understand what it means to buy comprehensive car insurance and how to compare third party car insurance first, then apply that decision across every quote you pull.
Every GIG motor policy, including Third Party, covers third-party bodily injury and extends legal liability to family members treated as third parties. GIG sets its third-party property damage limit at AED 3.5 million on the GIG Garage and Third Party plans and AED 5 million on the Agency plan.
That figure is worth understanding properly. Under the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy Against Third Party Liability issued by the Central Bank of the UAE, the mandatory market limit for third-party property damage is AED 2,000,000 per accident, and liability for third-party death or bodily injury carries no monetary cap at all — the policy obliges the insurer to pay the amount judicially awarded, with the single exception of family members of the insured or driver, who are limited to AED 200,000 per deceased person. GIG's 3.5 million and 5 million figures are therefore enhancements above the regulatory floor on property damage, not caps on injury claims.
On the two comprehensive plans, GIG adds loss or damage to your own vehicle, storm and flood damage, riots and strikes, off-road cover, guaranteed repairs and 24-hour accident and breakdown recovery. Two limits sit inside those plans that are often bought as separate products elsewhere: loss of personal belongings cover is capped at AED 4,000, and personal accident cover pays up to AED 350,000 for the driver on the Agency plan.
Storm and flood damage is included on both comprehensive plans and excluded from Third Party — a meaningful distinction in a market where a single weather event can write off a car, and the reason flood damage cover is one of the first things to check when comparing plan levels. Damage caused while driving off-road is covered on the comprehensive plans only; GIG states plainly that Motor Third Party does not cover off-roading, so dune and desert drivers should read the terms on 4x4 and off-road car insurance before choosing a plan.
These are private-vehicle products. Commercial and public-transport vehicles, pickup trucks and vans are excluded from several GIG motor services and need commercial and fleet car insurance quoted separately.
Third Party excludes the largest categories outright: loss or damage to your own vehicle, storm and flood damage, riots and strikes, personal injury cover, emergency medical expenses, personal belongings, off-road cover, agency repairs, guaranteed repairs, back to invoice on total loss, windscreen excess waiver, hire car, GCC cover and 24-hour breakdown recovery are all listed as not covered.
Across all plans, standard policy excess applies before GIG pays. GIG distinguishes two deductibles: a basic deductible set per accident in the Schedule of Deductibles attached to your policy, and an ancillary deductible charged as a fixed percentage of the claimed amount on top. You pay the excess when you collect the vehicle from the workshop or agency; on a total loss it is deducted from the settlement instead. Depreciation is applied to the net cost of new spare parts according to the age of the vehicle, and GIG invites you to check the purchase invoice before paying.
The general categories that UAE motor policies exclude — driving under the influence, racing, deliberate damage, mechanical wear — apply here as they do everywhere; the detail sits in the policy wording, and the pattern across the market is set out in what car insurance does not cover.
Oman cover. Oman is an optional extension on the Third Party plan and included on both comprehensive plans. GIG states that the policy covers road trips to Oman subject to obtaining an Orange Card, which existing customers download from the MyGIG Car portal. If you are not yet insured with GIG, the process and cost of an Orange Card for driving into Oman is the same regardless of insurer.
GCC cover. Optional on both comprehensive plans and not available on Third Party. GIG asks customers to add it at quote stage on the Motor Prestige or Motor Perfect policies.
War cover. GIG Gulf launched an optional war cover add-on for UAE motor policies. It costs 0.5% additional premium — a percentage, not a flat fee — and you choose a sum insured of up to the vehicle's full value less depreciation, AED 100,000, or AED 50,000. It is available on Motor Prestige, Motor Perfect Plus and Motor Perfect for private saloon, sedan, SUV and 4WD vehicles, and it covers direct damage to your own car from fighting between countries, invasion, civil war, rebellion, organised uprising and a forced change of government.
Three conditions on war cover matter before you buy.
War cover does not extend to third-party liability, nuclear or radioactive events, goods carried for trade, airport or airside operations, or any loss within 500 metres of a military base, defence site or marine port. It is not available to taxis, commercial or rental vehicles, or government and embassy-owned cars.
Windscreen and key cover. The Agency plan waives the excess on windscreen damage outright and the GIG Garage plan waives it below AED 5,000; on Third Party there is no glass cover at all, which is where a standalone windscreen cover comparison becomes relevant. GIG's published table does not itemise key replacement, so if you have lost a smart key before, check each quote against what car key replacement cover normally includes rather than assuming it is bundled.
GIG Gulf roadside assistance runs 24/7 and is reached on the same toll-free number as the rest of the company: call 800 292 and select the "Roadside Assistance" option. GIG describes the service as unlimited on its motor policies and covers recovery within your city and to the nearest workshop.
In an accident, roadside assistance is step one: GIG coordinates with the towing service before you deal with the police report or the claim form. For a normal breakdown rather than a collision, the same number and the same menu option apply.
Note the plan distinction in GIG's own table — 24-hour accident and breakdown recovery is listed as covered on both comprehensive plans and not covered on Third Party, even though the Third Party product page advertises round-the-clock roadside assistance. If breakdown recovery is the reason you are buying, read what roadside assistance cover includes as a benefit and check it explicitly on every quote.

GIG Gulf lists branches in the UAE, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar. If you are buying or renewing in the capital, the market comparison for car insurance in Abu Dhabi covers which insurers price competitively there.
GIG motor insurance renewal can be done two ways, and they answer different questions. Both take minutes; only one of them tells you whether GIG is still the right price for you this year.
Renewing directly with GIG. GIG car insurance renewal on GIG Gulf's own portal needs your existing policy number, and GIG applies a 10% instant discount on online purchases. This is the faster route if you already know you want to stay with GIG.
Renewing through Lookinsure. This route shows GIG's renewal price beside other UAE insurers on the same cover level, which is the only way to find out whether staying with GIG is actually the better deal this year. You can compare renewal quotes side by side and buy in the same session.
Renewal is also the moment your no-claims discount is applied. GIG confirms that a no-claims discount is transferable between insurers: you obtain a certificate from your previous insurer and present it to the new one. If you have never had to produce one, the mechanics of how the no-claims bonus works are worth reading before you renew, because the discount is usually larger than any difference in base premium.
Yes. Buying your GIG policy through Lookinsure lets you split the premium into four interest-free instalments with no fees. Select your GIG plan, then choose your payment partner at checkout — car insurance with Tabby or car insurance with Tamara.
Cover starts immediately from the policy start date and stays fully active while you pay; the instalments are a payment arrangement, not a staged policy. Keep the scheduled payments up to date to keep the policy valid without interruption. GIG Gulf also offers a four-month split at 0% interest and 0% fees on its own site, so instalments are available on either route.
To buy or renew a GIG motor policy online you will normally need:
For a hire car booking GIG asks for copies of the Emirates ID, driving licence, passport and visa, and a credit card. For the free inspection service it asks for the Emirates ID, driving licence, passport and visa, and the original old registration card.
GIG Gulf registers motor claims online through its customer portal and says the form takes about five minutes. The full sequence after an accident is:
Two conditions change the timeline. Where a third party is at fault, GIG requires approval from the third party's insurer before the claim proceeds. Where you are responsible for the damage, you pay the standard excess and any other applicable excess to the workshop.
Flood claims have an extra requirement: the police report must show the date of the flood as the incident date, and if the car was in a building's parking you must give the building name, owner or developer, locality and emirate, and the Makani number in Dubai.
If your plan is eligible for agency repairs, the car goes to the manufacturer's authorised agency. Otherwise GIG allocates one of its authorised network garages nearest to you, selected on quality, experience and market reputation. To check whether your usual workshop is in the network before you buy, see the GIG approved garage list.
GIG treats a vehicle as a total loss if it is damaged beyond repair, or if the repair cost exceeds 50% of its value at the time of loss. The total loss department issues an offer letter, and compensation is the agreed sum insured net of depreciation and any applicable excess.
To cancel, GIG requires proof that you no longer own the vehicle — a possession certificate, the new owner's registration card, or an export certificate. RTA receipts, sales agreements and tourism certificates are not accepted. Refunds are normally paid where there has been no at-fault claim that year, and the amount depends entirely on how far into the policy year you are.
The refund goes back to the original card used for purchase, in seven to ten working days.
Email [email protected] with your motor policy number. GIG issues the certificate within two working days. You qualify once you have completed at least one policy year without a claim. The certificate is what you present to another insurer to carry the discount across, and it is also what you need if you are moving out of the UAE and insuring a car abroad.
GIG's strength is the Agency plan: a five-year agency repair period and 24 months of back-to-invoice cover is at the generous end of the UAE market. Its Third Party plan is unusually well specified too, carrying AED 3.5 million of property damage cover against the AED 2 million regulatory minimum. Where it is less competitive is the middle — the GIG Garage plan drops emergency medical cover to AED 3,500 and makes agency repair an optional extra.
That makes it worth pricing against insurers with a different shape. Al Ain Ahlia car insurance is the natural comparison for drivers who value a straightforward claims and online renewal process, and Oriental car insurance competes hard on price at the third-party and mid-comprehensive levels.
For takaful-structured cover, Salama car insurance is the established UAE name, while Insurance House car insurance tends to suit drivers who want a smaller insurer with a direct claims relationship. Whichever you shortlist, compare like for like — agency versus network repair, the third-party property limit, and the excess — rather than on headline premium alone.
