AFNIC car insurance is the motor cover underwritten by Al Fujairah National Insurance Company (PSC), a UAE insurer founded in 1976, headquartered in Fujairah and listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange under the ticker AFNIC. It is sold in two forms — comprehensive and third-party liability — and both are regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE under the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy.
The company is often searched for under several names: AFNIC insurance, Fujairah National Insurance, or its full legal name, Al Fujairah National Insurance Company. They all refer to the same insurer. This guide covers what AFNIC motor insurance includes, who is eligible to buy it, how renewal works, and how to reach the company when you need to make a claim.
AFNIC car insurance is a Sharia-compliant motor policy issued by Al Fujairah National Insurance Company and valid across all seven emirates. The company writes both comprehensive cover and third-party liability cover, and operates on Takaful principles — policyholders contribute to a shared risk fund rather than paying an interest-bearing premium, with the arrangement supervised by an independent Sharia board.
AFNIC distributes an average annual profit share of 5–7% to policyholders under that Takaful model, and reports a claim settlement rate of 97%.
AFNIC is one of several insurers underwriting policies in the emirate, and if you are weighing it against local alternatives, our roundup of car insurance companies in Fujairah compares the field. Because the cover is structured on Takaful principles, it also sits alongside the wider category of Takaful car insurance available in the UAE.
AFNIC applies a hard age limit to the vehicles it will insure. A private car can be covered up to 10 years old; a commercial vehicle up to 7 years old. Beyond those limits, the vehicle is not eligible regardless of its condition or value.
A second limit applies to repairs rather than eligibility: agency repair — where your car is fixed at the manufacturer's own workshop using original parts — is only available within 2 years of the vehicle's first registration. After that, repairs go through AFNIC's approved garage network.
| Vehicle or driver | AFNIC eligibility |
|---|---|
| Private car, under 10 years old | Eligible for comprehensive or third-party cover |
| Private car, 10 years or older | Not eligible |
| Commercial vehicle, under 7 years old | Eligible |
| Commercial vehicle, 7 years or older | Not eligible |
| Car within 2 years of first registration | Agency repair available on comprehensive policies |
| Car more than 2 years from first registration | Approved garage network repair only |
| Driver | Valid UAE driving licence required at the time of any incident |
If your car falls outside these limits, it does not mean you are uninsurable — it means AFNIC is the wrong insurer for that vehicle, and you should compare car insurance quotes online in the UAE to find one whose age criteria fit.
AFNIC motor insurance comes in two forms, and the difference between them is simple: comprehensive pays for damage to your own car as well as to other people's; third-party liability pays only for other people's.
Comprehensive car insurance from AFNIC covers accidental damage to your own vehicle — collision, overturning, fire, external explosion, self-ignition and lightning — as well as burglary and theft, and your legal liability towards third parties. Natural-event damage that matters in the UAE, including flooding and sandstorm damage, sits inside the comprehensive policy rather than being sold separately.
Optional personal accident cover for the driver and passengers can be attached, as can 24-hour roadside assistance cover covering towing to the nearest garage, fuel delivery, lockout help, battery jump-starts and tyre changes across all emirates.
| Comprehensive cover | What it pays for |
|---|---|
| Own vehicle damage | Collision, overturning, fire, external explosion, self-ignition, lightning |
| Theft and burglary | Compensation at the vehicle's assessed market value |
| Natural events | Flood, sandstorm, hail and storm damage |
| Third-party property damage | Up to AED 2,000,000, the statutory limit under the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy |
| Third-party bodily injury and death | As determined under UAE law; not capped at a fixed sum |
| Repair route | Agency repair within 2 years of first registration; approved garage network thereafter |
| Personal accident | Available as an optional extension for driver and passengers |
Third-party car insurance is the legal minimum required to register and drive a vehicle in the UAE. It pays for bodily injury, death or property damage you cause to other people. It pays nothing towards your own vehicle, and no repair, theft or natural-event cover applies to your car under a TPL policy.
| Third-party liability | What it pays for |
|---|---|
| Third-party property damage | Up to AED 2,000,000 |
| Third-party bodily injury and death | As determined under UAE law |
| Legal compliance | Meets the UAE minimum requirement for vehicle registration |
| Your own vehicle | Not covered — no accident, theft, fire or flood cover applies to your car |
| Personal accident for the driver | Not included |
Choose comprehensive if your car is financed, under five years old, or would cost you more to replace than you could comfortably absorb. Choose third-party liability if the car is old enough that a total-loss payout would be small, and you would realistically pay for your own repairs out of pocket anyway.
The dividing line is not the price of the premium — it is the size of the loss you are protecting yourself against. A financed car is the clearest case of all, because the lender will normally require comprehensive cover for the life of the loan. If you are still weighing it up, our breakdown of comprehensive vs third-party car insurance works through the trade-off with worked examples.
| Your situation | Recommended AFNIC plan |
|---|---|
| New or financed car | Comprehensive — usually required by the lender |
| Car under 2 years old | Comprehensive, to use the agency repair window while it lasts |
| Electric or high-value vehicle | Comprehensive |
| Older, low-value car you could replace yourself | Third-party liability |
| Second car driven rarely | Third-party liability |
Add-ons attach to a comprehensive policy and extend it beyond the standard wording. Pricing depends on the vehicle, the driver's history and the emirate of registration, so the cost of each one is quoted at the point of purchase rather than fixed in advance.
The extensions drivers ask for most often are 4x4 and off-road car insurance for desert driving and recovery, and car key replacement cover for the electronic key reprogramming that modern cars require. Third-party policyholders who want protection against water damage need flood damage car insurance as a separate extension, since flood cover is only built into comprehensive policies.
| Add-on | What it extends | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Off-road and recovery cover | Desert driving recovery and resulting damage | SUV and 4x4 owners |
| Key replacement | Electronic key reprogramming and replacement | Owners of keyless or luxury vehicles |
| Flood cover extension | Water damage, for policies where it is not already included | Third-party policyholders |
| Replacement vehicle | A hire car while yours is being repaired | Daily commuters with no second car |
| Personal belongings | Theft of items left inside the vehicle | Family vehicles |
| Tyre and rim protection | Pothole and kerb damage to wheels | Low-profile tyre users |
| Oman extension | Cover while driving across the Oman border | Frequent GCC travellers |
The Oman extension is worth understanding before you travel: UAE motor policies do not automatically cross the border, and you will also need the separate Oman orange card to satisfy Omani authorities at the crossing.
AFNIC offers two repair routes on comprehensive policies, and the one available to you depends on your car's age rather than your preference.
Agency repair sends your car to the manufacturer's own dealership workshop, using original parts and preserving the manufacturer warranty. AFNIC makes this available within 2 years of first registration. Non-agency repair routes the work through AFNIC's approved garage network — the standard option for everything older, and the only option on a third-party policy.
The practical consequence is that the garage network matters more the older your car gets. Before a claim, it is worth checking the approved garage list for a workshop near you, because a garage inside the network bills the insurer directly while one outside it usually means paying first and claiming back.
No motor policy in the UAE covers everything, and some exclusions void an otherwise valid claim entirely. AFNIC motor insurance does not pay for:
One point is widely misunderstood: if an uninsured driver damages your car, a comprehensive AFNIC policy still pays for your repairs. Your own cover responds regardless of whether the other party was insured — it is only under a third-party policy that you would be left recovering the cost yourself.
Separately, every claim carries an excess — the fixed amount you pay towards each repair before the insurer contributes. It is not an exclusion, but it does determine whether a small claim is worth making at all; our guide to car insurance excess explains how the figure is set.
AFNIC car insurance renewal takes a few minutes online and does not require a branch visit. The fastest route is to compare what AFNIC and other UAE insurers will charge before you commit, since your premium changes each year with your car's value and your claims history.
Renew before your current policy expires. A lapsed motor policy means the car cannot legally be driven or re-registered, and a gap in cover can reset the discount you have built up.
Carry your no-claims record with you. AFNIC applies a maximum no-claim discount of 25% to the renewal premium, and the discount transfers from a previous insurer if you supply their claim-free certificate. Our guide to the no-claim bonus explains how the discount builds and what resets it.
You can spread the cost of an AFNIC policy bought through Lookinsure across four interest-free instalments instead of paying the full premium upfront. Cover begins the moment the policy is issued — paying in instalments does not delay the start date or reduce what you are covered for.
Two payment platforms handle this. You can pay for car insurance with Tabby across four scheduled payments, or pay for car insurance with Tamara with a deferred first payment. Both are interest-free, and neither adds a fee to the premium.
The AFNIC insurance contact number is 800-AFNIC (800-23642), the company's toll-free line for policy enquiries and claims notification. The email address is [email protected] and the main office line is +971 9 2233355.
Note that AFNIC suspended its WhatsApp communication service on 29 April 2026 following Central Bank of the UAE directives. Claims and enquiries that were previously sent by WhatsApp must now go through the toll-free line, email, or a branch.

The Dubai branch in Business Bay handles most AFNIC car insurance Dubai enquiries, and the Al Hayl yard in Fujairah is the motor claims department — the office to call about an assessment or a repair already in progress. Drivers registering a vehicle in the emirate itself can also compare car insurance in Fujairah across insurers before choosing.
Notify AFNIC within 24 hours of the incident. Late notification is one of the most common reasons a motor claim is reduced or refused in the UAE.
The process is broadly the same across UAE insurers, and the sequence — police report first, insurer second, garage third — is what determines whether a claim is accepted. Our step-by-step guide on how to file a car accident insurance claim in the UAE covers what to do at the roadside before any of this begins.
To buy or renew an AFNIC policy online you need digital copies of your Emirates ID (front and back), a valid UAE driving licence, and your vehicle registration card (mulkiya). Additional documents depend on your circumstances.
| Situation | Additional documents |
|---|---|
| New vehicle | Showroom invoice; bank loan agreement if financed |
| Used car | Vehicle inspection report; ownership transfer certificate |
| Expatriate residents | Passport copy with the residence visa page |
| Paying in instalments | Recent bank statements and a salary certificate |
| Transferring a no-claim discount | Claim-free certificate from your previous insurer |
Expatriates converting a foreign licence need an attested English or Arabic translation. If you have misplaced your current policy document, you can download a duplicate copy of your policy rather than requesting one from the insurer.
For a claim, submit the completed claim form, the original police report with its case number, copies of your Emirates ID and driving licence, and the vehicle registration card. Claim-specific documents follow:
| Claim type | Additional requirements |
|---|---|
| Accident | Repair estimates; damage photographs from four angles plus close-ups |
| Theft | Police report, original vehicle keys, purchase invoice |
| Flood or storm damage | National Center of Meteorology bulletin for the date of the incident |
| Injury | Medical reports, hospital bills, treating doctor's prognosis |
| Third-party claim | Witness statements and the other party's insurance details |

The AFNIC insurance contact number is 800-AFNIC, dialled as 800-23642, which is the company's toll-free line for policy and claims enquiries. The main office number is +971 9 2233355 and the email address is [email protected]. AFNIC discontinued its WhatsApp service on 29 April 2026 under Central Bank of the UAE directives.
Call the Fujairah motor claims yard directly on 09-2231300. It sits at the Fujairah Insurance Vehicle Yard in Al Hayl and handles damage assessments and repairs in progress. For a new incident, report it first on the toll-free line 800-23642 within 24 hours, then bring the vehicle in for assessment.
Comprehensive AFNIC insurance coverage includes accident damage to your own car, theft, fire, flood and sandstorm damage, plus third-party liability up to AED 2,000,000 for property damage. Third-party liability cover includes only the damage and injury you cause to others. Personal accident and roadside assistance can be added to either as optional extensions.
Yes. AFNIC car insurance in Dubai is written on the same basis as anywhere else in the country, and the policy is valid across all seven emirates regardless of where your vehicle is registered. AFNIC's Dubai branch is at Office 706, Bay Square Building 2, Business Bay, on 04-2772155.
Only up to a point. AFNIC insures private cars up to 10 years old and commercial vehicles up to 7 years old, so anything older is outside its criteria. Agency repair is a separate limit again, available only within 2 years of first registration. Beyond that, repairs run through the approved garage network.
Yes. You can buy or renew an AFNIC policy entirely online through Lookinsure and pay in one go or across four interest-free instalments using Tabby or Tamara. No branch visit is needed, no fee is added to the premium, and your cover begins the moment the policy is issued rather than when the final instalment clears.
It depends on which cover you buy. Third-party premiums come from a fixed regulatory schedule tied to vehicle category, so the price barely moves as a car ages. Comprehensive premiums are calculated as a share of your car's current market value, so they fall each year as the vehicle depreciates. Compare quotes to see your figure.
