What is Al Sagr car insurance?

Al Sagr car insurance is the motor product line of Al Sagr National Insurance Company, a general insurer licensed in the UAE and regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE. The company has traded under the ASNIC name since 1979 and writes both third-party liability and comprehensive motor policies under the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy that governs all UAE motor cover.

The name is transliterated several ways in search — Al Sagar, Al Saqr, Saqar and Alsagr all refer to the same insurer.

One important distinction: Al Sagr National Insurance Company (UAE) and Al Sagr Cooperative Insurance Company (Saudi Arabia) are different companies. They share a name and nothing else. This page covers the UAE insurer only.

Al Sagr car insurance price by car model

Al Sagr prices third-party cover by vehicle class rather than by what the car is worth: AED 900 for the sedans in the table below, AED 1,260 for the large SUVs. Comprehensive cover on the same car runs roughly three to four times the third-party premium. A different model, model year or driver profile will quote differently.

These are verified Al Sagr premiums for some of the most commonly insured cars in the UAE, quoted on the same basis as the rest of this page: a 2024 model year vehicle with a clean driving record, verified in August 2026.

Toyota CamryAED 900AED 2,8263.1×
Nissan PatrolAED 1,260AED 4,0653.2×
Toyota Land CruiserAED 1,260AED 4,9413.9×

Two patterns are worth reading out of this table. Third-party pricing is banded rather than continuous — a Sunny, an Altima and a Camry all pay AED 900, because third-party premiums are set by engine and body class, not by what the car is worth. Comprehensive pricing is not banded, because it has to cover the car itself: the Land Cruiser costs 22% more to insure comprehensively than the Patrol even though both sit in the same third-party band.

If your car is a Camry or a Land Cruiser, compare the numbers above against the wider Toyota car insurance market. Owners of the Altima, Sunny or Patrol should check Nissan car insurance quotes across insurers before committing, and Patrol and Land Cruiser owners should also look at 4x4 car insurance options, which price off-road use differently.

Premiums move with driver age, claims history, no-claims discount, vehicle value and the add-ons you select. The factors that affect a car insurance premium in the UAE explain why two drivers in identical cars can be quoted very different numbers.

Al Sagr comprehensive vs third-party car insurance

Choose comprehensive cover if your car is financed, under three years old, or worth more than AED 30,000. Choose third-party if the car is older, low in value, and you can afford to replace it yourself. Third-party is the legal minimum in the UAE; comprehensive is the one that pays to repair your own car.

Third-party car insurance protects against damage or injury you cause to others. Comprehensive car insurance adds cover for your own vehicle against accidents, theft, fire and other insured risks, subject to policy terms.

Al Sagr vs Methaq vs Fidelity United: third-party prices

All figures below are for a 2024 Nissan Altima valued at AED 83,000, verified in August 2026. Third-party cover is usually chosen on price, but liability limits, personal accident benefits and roadside support can make a real difference depending on how you use the car.

Methaq is the cheapest of the three on headline premium, but Al Sagr is the only one of the three that publishes an unlimited bodily injury limit alongside a AED 200,000 personal accident benefit at no extra cost. Compare Al Sagr against Methaq car insurance and Fidelity United car insurance on the benefits you would actually claim, not just the number on the quote.

Al Sagr vs Methaq vs Fidelity United: comprehensive prices

All figures below are for the same 2024 Nissan Altima valued at AED 83,000, verified in August 2026. A lower comprehensive premium usually means a narrower add-on set or tighter repair conditions, so read the two together.

Al Sagr, Methaq or Fidelity United: which should you choose?

On this comparison, Fidelity United is the best value for a standard comprehensive policy, Methaq is the cheapest third-party option and the only Takaful provider of the three, and Al Sagr is the strongest on liability and injury protection. Any honest Al Sagr car insurance review has to acknowledge that its comprehensive premium is the highest of the three — and that what you get for it is the widest liability cover and a personal accident benefit the other two charge extra for.

Al Sagr motor insurance combines a core cover set with a list of optional benefits you select at quote stage. Knowing which are included and which cost extra is the difference between an accurate quote and a surprise at claim time.

Windscreen cover limits by plan

Windscreen limits differ by plan, and the figure you are quoted depends on which one you buy. Confirm the limit on your own policy schedule before you rely on it.

PlanWindscreen limit
Standard comprehensive, as published by Al SagrUp to AED 2,000
Motor Plus, as listed by brokersUp to AED 4,000 with no excess

Broken glass is one of the most frequently claimed items on a UAE motor policy, which is why windscreen cover is worth pricing rather than skipping.

Roadside assistance with Al Sagr

Yes, Al Sagr offers roadside assistance, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on the optional package. The toll-free number is 800 88726. The package covers accident towing, mechanical breakdown towing, battery assistance, flat tyre changes, lockout support and emergency fuel delivery.

Compare what is bundled against what is charged separately before you buy, because roadside assistance cover is priced very differently across UAE insurers.

Flood, storm and personal accident cover

Natural hazards are not part of the standard Al Sagr comprehensive wording — floods, storms and earthquakes sit in the optional benefits list. If you park outdoors or drive in the northern emirates during the rainy season, treat car flood insurance as a cost-of-ownership item rather than an upsell.

Al Sagr includes up to AED 200,000 of personal accident cover as standard, which is unusual — most UAE insurers charge for it as an add-on.

What is not covered under Al Sagr car insurance?

Like every UAE motor policy, Al Sagr cover carries exclusions. These apply regardless of plan type, and the final issued wording governs.

ExclusionWhat it means
Driving without a valid licenceClaims are rejected if the driver was not legally licensed to drive the vehicle
Driving under the influenceAlcohol and prohibited-substance incidents are excluded
Intentional damageDeliberate damage is never covered
Racing or competitive useExcluded unless specifically approved in writing
Unauthorised modificationsModified vehicles need insurer approval before cover applies
Mechanical wear and tearRoutine deterioration is a maintenance cost, not an insured loss
Natural disasters without the add-onFlood, storm and earthquake damage is excluded unless the optional cover was purchased
Incidents outside the covered areaCover applies in the UAE unless an Oman or Orange Card extension is active
Own vehicle damage under third-partyA third-party policy never pays to repair your own car
Repairs started before claim approvalUnapproved repairs void the claim

Al Sagr agency and workshop repair: the 3-year and 10-year rule

Al Sagr allows agency repair for up to 3 years from the vehicle's first registration date, and non-agency workshop repair for up to 10 years. This is the single most important condition to check before you buy, because it decides who touches your car after an accident.

Vehicle age from first registrationRepair routeWhat it means in practice
0–3 yearsAgency repair availableRepairs at the manufacturer's authorised dealer, using original parts
3–10 yearsApproved workshop onlyRepairs at an ASNIC-approved garage from the network below
Over 10 yearsSubject to underwritingCover and repair terms are assessed case by case

Repair routing always depends on claim approval and garage assignment. Never start a repair before the claim is authorised — unapproved work will not be reimbursed.

How to make an Al Sagr insurance motor claim

Report the accident to the police first and obtain the official police report — no UAE motor claim proceeds without it. Then call Al Sagr on 04 702 8500, or 800 88726 if the car needs towing.

  1. Contact Al Sagr on 04 702 8500 or email [email protected].
  2. Submit the required claim documents:
  • Copy of the police report
  • Copy of the vehicle registration for both vehicles
  • Copy of the driving licence for both drivers
  • Copy of the Emirates ID, both sides
  • The completed and signed Al Sagr motor claim form
  1. Once the claim is registered you receive a claim reference number and the assigned garage and repair location.
  2. The garage inspects the vehicle and prepares a repair estimate.

If repair costs are below 50% of the vehicle value, repairs proceed once approved. If they exceed 50%, the vehicle may be declared a total loss and settled against the agreed value. Where another driver was at fault, authorisation may require coordination with their insurer.

Repair duration depends on damage severity and parts availability; the assigned garage provides the timeline. Any applicable excess must be paid before the vehicle is released.

The steps and paperwork are the same across UAE insurers — this guide to how a car accident insurance claim works in the UAE covers the police-report stage in more detail.

Total loss claims

If repair costs exceed 50% of the insured vehicle value, the claim is treated as a total loss. Compensation is calculated against the agreed vehicle value and the policy conditions in force at the time of the accident, less any applicable excess.

Why Al Sagr claims get rejected

The most common reasons an Al Sagr insurance claim is declined are a missing or late police report, driving without a valid licence for the vehicle class, alcohol or substance involvement, repairs started before claim approval, undeclared vehicle modifications, and incidents outside the covered geographical area. Reporting promptly and waiting for authorisation removes most of this risk.

Replacement vehicle benefit

A replacement vehicle may be arranged where the benefit is shown on your policy schedule and the repair is expected to take more than 24 hours. Request it through the Al Sagr motor claims team when the claim is registered, not after the repair has begun.

Driving to Oman with Al Sagr car insurance

Al Sagr policies do not cover you in Oman by default. You need either the Oman extension or an Orange Card, both purchased as optional add-ons before you travel. The Orange Card is the recognised motor insurance document across participating Arab states and is what border officials ask for.

Arrange it before the trip, not at the border. Our guide to how to get an Orange Card for Oman covers the paperwork and the current cost.

Frequently asked questions

Al Sagr National Insurance Company, known as ASNIC, is a UAE general insurer founded in 1979 and headquartered in Bur Dubai. It writes third-party and comprehensive motor policies alongside other general insurance lines. It is a separate company from Al Sagr Cooperative Insurance, which operates in Saudi Arabia and shares only the name.

It depends on the car. With Al Sagr, a Nissan Altima, Sunny or Toyota Camry pays AED 900 for third-party cover, while a Nissan Patrol or Land Cruiser pays AED 1,260. Comprehensive ranges from AED 2,800 on an Altima to AED 4,941 on a Land Cruiser, verified August 2026.

Report the accident to the police and get the official report, then call Al Sagr on 04 702 8500 or email [email protected]. Submit the police report, both vehicle registrations, both driving licences, your Emirates ID and the signed claim form. You then receive a claim reference number and the assigned repair garage.

No. Repairs must go through an ASNIC-approved garage assigned to you when the claim is registered. Agency repair at the manufacturer's dealer is available for cars up to 3 years from first registration; approved workshop repair applies up to 10 years. Starting any repair before claim approval will void the claim.

Open Lookinsure, select "Get Quote", then choose "Renew". Adjust your optional benefits and driver details, apply your no-claims bonus and any early-renewal discount, and pay by card, Tabby or Tamara. Renewing before your policy expires normally costs less than renewing on or after the expiry date.

Policies bought through Lookinsure are available in your Lookinsure account, where you can view and download the policy document at any time. For a policy bought directly from the insurer, use the Al Sagr customer portal or call 04 702 8500 and quote your policy number to confirm the status and expiry date.

Roadside assistance is available on both third-party and comprehensive Al Sagr policies as an optional package, not as a standard inclusion. When active it runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on 800 88726, covering accident and breakdown towing, battery help, flat tyres, lockouts and fuel delivery.

Not by default. Al Sagr cover applies inside the UAE unless you buy the Oman extension or an Orange Card, both of which are optional add-ons priced at quote stage. The Orange Card is the document recognised across participating Arab states, so arrange it before you travel rather than at the border.
