DNI car insurance is the motor insurance line of Dubai National Insurance, a UAE insurer established in 1991 that sells comprehensive and third-party cover for private vehicles, with comprehensive policies running 13 months instead of the standard 12. Third-party cover starts from AED 728 and comprehensive from AED 1,700 for a 2021 Toyota Corolla valued at AED 43,000. You can compare Dubai car insurance quotes online from DNI and other UAE insurers side by side before you buy.
DNI stands for Dubai National Insurance, and DNI car insurance is that company's motor product for UAE drivers. The insurer has operated since 1991 from a head office on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, with a second office in Abu Dhabi and a point of sale in Al Ain. Like every motor insurer in the country, it writes cover under the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy and is supervised by the Central Bank of the UAE, so the mandatory third-party limits are the same wherever you buy.
What differs between insurers is everything above that floor. DNI competes on three specific things: a 13-month comprehensive policy sold at the twelve-month price, agency repair using brand new parts rather than refurbished ones, and geographical cover that includes Oman for own damage as standard.
DNI third-party insurance starts from AED 728 and DNI comprehensive insurance from AED 1,700 for a 2021 Toyota Corolla valued at AED 43,000. Comprehensive costs about 2.3 times the third-party premium on the same car — the clearest way to judge whether own-damage cover is worth it for your vehicle.
The 13-month period changes that maths in DNI's favour. At AED 1,700 across 13 months you are paying roughly AED 131 for each month of cover, against AED 142 a month if the same premium bought a standard 12-month policy. On a car of this value the extra month is worth about AED 140.
Premiums move with vehicle value, age, driver history and claims record, so treat these as a benchmark rather than your quote. Figures for a different vehicle will differ — Toyota car insurance prices, for instance, vary widely between a Corolla and a Land Cruiser.
Choose DNI comprehensive if your car is financed, worth more than about AED 30,000, or you cannot absorb the cost of repairing it yourself. Choose third-party if the car is old enough that its market value is close to a year of comprehensive premiums. Below is what each policy actually buys.

Under-25 driver excess | +10% | +10% |
Both policies carry the same unlimited third-party bodily injury liability and the same AED 2,000,000 property damage limit, because those are set by the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy rather than by the insurer. Everything else in the left column is what the extra AED 972 buys.
Note: Prices are estimates for a 2021 Toyota Corolla valued at AED 43,000. Actual premiums vary by vehicle.
DNI has the cheapest third-party premium of the three at AED 728, and it still carries unlimited bodily injury liability. If price is the only thing deciding your third-party car insurance, DNI wins this comparison outright.
TPL comparison point | DNI | RAK Insurance | Adamjee |

The AED 292 gap between DNI and RAK buys roadside assistance and an ambulance benefit that DNI's base third-party policy does not include. If you drive an older car and would call a tow truck rather than a garage, that is the trade to weigh.
Note: Prices are for a 2021 Toyota Corolla valued at AED 43,000.
Adamjee is AED 25 cheaper, but DNI's comprehensive policy runs 13 months to Adamjee's 12 and repairs at the agency with brand new parts. On like-for-like cover, DNI is the better value of the two. Compare the whole picture rather than the premium line before you commit to comprehensive car insurance.

Note what DNI's Oman cover does and does not do. Own damage to your car is covered across the border as standard, but third-party liability in Oman is not — for that you need an Orange Card, the GCC-wide liability card. If you drive to Muscat regularly, read how to get an Orange Card for Oman before you travel.
Note: Prices are for a 2021 Toyota Corolla valued at AED 43,000.
Choose DNI if you want agency repair with brand new parts, drive into Oman, or take a 4WD off-road — no other insurer in this comparison combines all three at AED 1,700. Choose RAK if you want the deepest benefit list and are willing to pay AED 129 more for it. Choose Adamjee only if the AED 25 saving matters more than the extra month of cover.
Your priority | What to check | Likely direction |
Lowest TPL premium | Basic premium | DNI (AED 728) |
Longest coverage period | Months of cover | DNI (13 months) |
Cheapest comprehensive option | Premium price | Adamjee (AED 1,675) or DNI (AED 1,700) |
Agency repair quality | Brand new vs standard parts | DNI (as brand new) |
Off-road driving | Off-road cover inclusion | RAK or DNI (both include for 4x4s) |
UAE and Oman driving | Geographical extension | DNI (UAE and Oman own damage included) or RAK (with Orange Card) |
Roadside assistance quality | Coverage level | DNI (Gold Card IMC) or RAK (24/7 UAE and Oman) |
Storm, flood, riot and strike cover | Included or optional | DNI (included) |
Personal belongings cover | Limit amount | RAK (AED 5,000) vs DNI (AED 2,000) |
Emergency medical expenses | Limit amount | RAK (AED 5,000) vs DNI (AED 3,000) |
Maximum feature depth | Total included benefits | RAK |
Budget-focused comprehensive | Price vs benefits | Adamjee or DNI |
For drivers who want maximum feature depth — higher belongings cover, unlimited windscreen, key replacement — RAK car insurance is the deeper policy. For the lowest comprehensive premium on the list, Adamjee car insurance is AED 25 under DNI, though on a lower declared value.
Agency repair means your car is repaired at a manufacturer-authorised dealer rather than an independent workshop. Most UAE insurers that offer it restrict it to cars under a certain age — RAK, for instance, offers it up to 25 months. DNI's version goes further on parts: repairs use brand new components, not refurbished or reconditioned ones.
That distinction matters most on a car still under manufacturer warranty, where a non-agency repair with used parts can affect warranty terms and resale value. It matters least on an older car where the parts premium buys little. Under UAE rules, replacement parts remain subject to depreciation under Insurance Authority Board of Directors Decision No. 25 of 2016, so agency repair changes where and how your car is fixed, not whether depreciation applies.

Driver and passenger protection is the one benefit DNI leaves optional that both RAK and Adamjee include as standard. If you regularly carry passengers, price the add-on rather than assuming it is there — personal accident cover explains what the benefit pays and when.
Like all UAE motor policies, DNI applies exclusions that depend on the policy wording and coverage type. The two that catch drivers out most often are off-road damage in a vehicle that is not a 4WD, and any claim where the driver was under 25 at the time of the accident, which carries an extra 10% excess.
Common exclusion area | What it means |
Driving without a valid licence | Claims may be rejected if the driver is not legally licensed or is driving with an expired or suspended licence |
Driving under the influence | Accidents involving alcohol, narcotics or drugs affecting driver control are typically excluded |
Using the vehicle for unauthorised purposes | Claims may not be covered if the car is used for purposes different from those declared in the policy |
Racing or speed testing | Damage caused during racing, speed tests or similar activities is generally excluded |
Mechanical or electrical breakdown | Wear and tear, mechanical failure or electrical breakdown are not covered |
Tyre damage only | Tyre damage alone may not be covered unless it occurs alongside insured vehicle damage |
Overloading the vehicle | Claims may be rejected if overloading or excess passengers directly caused the accident |
Outside UAE geographical limits | Coverage does not apply outside the UAE unless the Oman extension is included (own damage only for DNI) |
Natural disasters (TPL policies) | Third-party policies exclude floods, earthquakes, hurricanes and similar natural disasters |
War, invasion, hostilities, civil war | Damage related to war, foreign enemy action or warlike operations is excluded |
Nuclear risks | Ionising radiation, radioactive contamination, nuclear fuel or atomic explosions are excluded |
Own vehicle damage under TPL | Third-party insurance does not cover damage to the insured vehicle itself |
Off-road driving (non-4WD vehicles) | Off-road damage is only covered for eligible 4WD vehicles (AED 5,000 excess applies) |
Safari activities | Off-road cover excludes safari activities |
Employee or work-related injuries | Injuries to employees during work may require separate or additional coverage |
Intentional legal violations | Claims involving deliberate criminal acts or intentional law violations may be rejected |
Loss of insurer recovery rights | Claims may be denied if the insured falsely accepts responsibility and prevents the insurer from recovering losses from the actual liable party |
False declaration | Any false declaration or wrong information voids the quotation; cancellation charges may apply |
Most of these are standard across the market rather than specific to DNI — the wider list of common car insurance exclusions in the UAE applies whichever insurer you choose.
Condition | Details |
Under-25 driver excess | Additional 10% excess applies if the driver is under 25 at the time of the accident |
Depreciation | Replacement parts are subject to depreciation as per Insurance Authority Board of Directors Decision No. 25 of 2016 |
Additional information | DNI may require car photos, an RTA passing certificate, or a vehicle inspection |
Quotation validity | Quotations are valid for 15 days from the date of issuance |
Renewal claims | If a claim is submitted after the renewal date but the accident occurred before renewal, the new policy may be considered void and cancelled |
Requirements vary with insurer checks, vehicle specification and policy type, and extra paperwork is common for off-road cover eligibility or imported vehicles. The full list of documents required for car insurance in the UAE covers what other insurers ask for.
The whole process runs online and takes minutes rather than a branch visit. Get an instant DNI quote by entering your plate number or chassis number.
Renew a DNI car insurance policy online in six steps, without visiting an office:
Two things to check at renewal. Confirm the 13-month period still applies to the plan you are being quoted, and confirm any no claim discount has been applied. Timing matters too: if a claim is submitted after the renewal date for an accident that happened before it, DNI may treat the new policy as void and cancel it.
Buying through Lookinsure lets you split a DNI premium into four interest-free payments using car insurance with Tamara or car insurance with Tabby. The policy is issued after the first payment, not the last.
Here is how the payments work out for a 2021 Toyota Corolla:
Policy type | Total premium (estimate) | First payment (of 4) | Remaining payments |
DNI third-party insurance | AED 728 | Approx. AED 182 | 3 payments of approx. AED 182 |
DNI comprehensive insurance (13 months) | AED 1,700 | Approx. AED 425 | 3 payments of approx. AED 425 |
Note: Whether you pay in full by card or in installments, the policy is issued immediately after the first payment.
Start a DNI claim by calling 600 5 80000, Monday to Thursday 8 AM to 6 PM and Friday 8 AM to 12 PM. For roadside help at any hour, Gold Card holders call IMC on 600 575751, which runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Agency repair customers can go straight to the authorised dealer with their documents and notify DNI afterwards.
Important notes
The sequence is much the same at every UAE insurer — this guide to filing a car accident claim in the UAE covers the police-report step in more detail.
Submitting a claim does not mean the insurer has accepted liability. Approval depends on the policy terms, the documents submitted, the accident circumstances and the claim assessment. If the driver was under 25 at the time of the accident, an additional 10% excess applies. Most refusals trace back to a handful of avoidable causes — see the reasons car insurance claims get rejected.
Where your car is repaired depends on the policy you hold, the claim approval and DNI's instructions after the accident is registered. Comprehensive policyholders with agency repair cover go to the manufacturer's authorised dealer; everyone else is assigned a workshop from DNI's approved network, which spans all seven emirates. Do not choose a garage yourself before DNI has assigned one.
Repair type | Eligibility | Key features |
Agency repair | DNI comprehensive policy with agency repair cover | Repairs at manufacturer-authorised dealers using brand new parts |
Non-agency repair | DNI comprehensive policy (standard) | Repairs at DNI's approved workshop network across all emirates |
Gold or Classic card | DNI customers holding a Gold or Classic card | IMC assistance on accident or breakdown |
To check whether a specific workshop is on the network before you call, the DNI approved garage list sets out the workshops by emirate.
