Car insurance Ajman price: what drivers actually pay

Most Ajman drivers pay between AED 650 and AED 2,000 a year. As a rule of thumb, comprehensive cover runs at roughly 2% to 4% of your car's market value per year, and third-party liability sits well below that because it does not protect your own vehicle at all.

What you pay depends on the cover level and the repair type you pick, not on the emirate you register in. These are the starting points available through Lookinsure, verified in August 2026:

Cover and repair typeStarting price (AED/year)Best suited to

Is car insurance mandatory in Ajman?

Yes. Every vehicle registered in Ajman must carry at least third-party liability cover, and you cannot renew your registration without a valid policy. The rule is federal, not emirate-level, so the same minimum applies in all seven emirates.

The cover itself is standardised. Under the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy issued by the Central Bank of the UAE, third-party property damage is capped at AED 2,000,000 for any one accident, and third-party bodily injury carries no monetary cap at all — the insurer pays the amount awarded by the court. Family members of the insured or the driver are the exception, limited to AED 200,000 per person.

This matters when you compare policies: the AED 2 million figure is the statutory ceiling, not a feature one insurer offers and another withholds. If a quote appears to offer a lower third-party limit, that is a reason to question the quote.

Third-party vs comprehensive car insurance in Ajman

Choose comprehensive if your car is financed, under five years old, or worth more than about AED 30,000. Choose third-party liability if your car is older than that and you could absorb the cost of replacing it yourself. Comprehensive costs roughly twice as much and protects roughly ten times as much.

What is coveredThird-party liabilityComprehensive
Injury to other peopleYes — no monetary capYes — no monetary cap
Damage to other people's propertyYes — up to AED 2,000,000Yes — up to AED 2,000,000
Damage to your own carNoYes
Fire and theftNoYes
Accident scratches and dents on your carNoYes
Legally sufficient to register the carYesYes

Comprehensive car insurance is the highest level of protection available, adding fire, theft and own-damage cover on top of the legal minimum. Third-party car insurance is that legal minimum on its own — it pays for the harm you cause to others and nothing else.

Which cover fits your Ajman vehicle?

Your situationBetter starting pointWhy
You drive an older, lower-value car (5+ years)Third-partyLegal compliance at the lowest cost — Ajman has a high share of older vehicles
Your car is new or financedComprehensiveProtects your own vehicle, and most finance companies require it
You commute daily between Sharjah and AjmanComprehensive with roadside assistanceHigher exposure on Al Ittihad Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Compare car insurance in Sharjah if the car is registered there instead
You drive through Al Jurf or Al Tallah 2 industrial areasComprehensiveHeavy truck traffic raises collision risk
You want the lowest legal coverThird-partyFocus the comparison on price and service, since the liability limit is fixed by law
You often carry family passengersComprehensive with personal accident coverAdds protection for the driver and passengers, who are not covered by third-party liability
You are a new driver or under 25Comprehensive with a higher excessYounger drivers have higher accident rates; a higher excess keeps the premium down

Add-ons worth paying for in Ajman

Add-ons are where two comprehensive policies at the same price stop being equivalent. Four are worth the money for most Ajman drivers; the rest depend on how you actually use the car.

Add-onWhat it doesWorth it in Ajman if

Pay for Ajman car insurance in 4 interest-free installments

You do not have to pay the full premium upfront. Lookinsure lets Ajman drivers pay for car insurance with Tabby or pay for car insurance with Tamara, splitting the cost into four equal payments with no interest and no added fees.

Insurance for Ajman car registration renewal

Renew your insurance before you renew your registration — not the other way round. Ajman allows a 30-day grace period after your registration expires, but that grace period does not extend to an expired insurance policy. Driving on a lapsed policy is an offence from the first day.

Correct order for an Ajman car insurance renewal

  1. Renew your car insurance online through Lookinsure

  2. Your insurer uploads the policy to the traffic system automatically

  3. If the car is over 3 years old, take it for technical inspection (AED 150–170)

  4. Clear any outstanding traffic fines

  5. Complete the renewal through the MOI app or the Ajman Police app

  6. Receive your new Mulkiya

The penalties for letting registration lapse are set federally by Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017: a fine of AED 500 and 4 black points on your licence. If the registration has been expired for three months or more, the vehicle is impounded for 7 days on top of the fine.

For the registration process itself — inspection centres, timings and fees — see our full guide to Ajman car registration renewal.

How to check car insurance after an accident in Ajman

Check the other driver's insurance status before you leave the scene. The police report issued at the accident records both vehicles' insurance details, and it is the document your insurer works from — without it, most claims stall.

You can verify a policy against the plate number or the chassis number through the MOI app, and your own policy details sit in the email your insurer sent at purchase. If the other driver turns out to be uninsured, the police report is what preserves your right to recover from them, so never settle an accident privately at the roadside in Ajman.

An accident on your record also affects what the car is worth later. A repaired accident vehicle sells for less, and your premium rises at the next renewal unless you have protected your no-claims discount.

What to compare before you choose an insurer in Ajman

Compare on repair type and service network first, price second. Every insurer in the UAE offers the same statutory third-party limits, so the differences that matter are where your car gets repaired and how quickly a claim moves.

What to compareWhy it mattersAjman-specific note
Repair typeAgency, premium garage or approved garageConfirm the insurer's approved garages are reachable from Ajman, not only Dubai
Own-damage coverDetermines whether your own car is protectedIndustrial-area traffic around Al Jurf makes this worth the premium
ExcessThe amount you pay on each claimA higher excess lowers the premium but raises the cost of a small claim
Add-ons includedRoadside, replacement car, windscreenDaily Sharjah commuters should not drop roadside assistance
Claims turnaroundHow long you are without the carAsk before buying, not after an accident
Instalment eligibilityWhether you can split the premiumTabby and Tamara are available at checkout
Basic premiumThe cheapest quote is not always the best valueAjman is a price-sensitive market, so the gap between quotes can be wide

If you want a provider-by-provider breakdown before you buy, our guide to the best car insurance companies in Ajman compares the main insurers operating in the emirate.

Can I buy car insurance outside Ajman?

Yes. UAE insurers operate nationwide, so a policy bought from a Dubai or Sharjah-based insurer is fully valid for an Ajman-registered car and across all seven emirates. The one thing to check is the repair network — confirm the insurer has approved workshops you can actually reach. Our approved garage lists by insurer show where each company sends cars for repair.

What affects car insurance prices in Ajman?

Four factors move your premium more than anything else. Age of the car and age of the driver together explain most of the difference between two quotes on the same vehicle.

Car market value
Premiums track the insured declared value, so higher-value cars cost more to cover
Car type
Sports and luxury models carry higher repair costs and higher premiums
Driving record
A clean claims history is the single biggest discount available
Driver's age
Drivers under 25 pay more, and often face a higher compulsory excess

How to get cheap car insurance in Ajman without losing protection

The reliable way to find cheap car insurance in Ajman is to compare several insurers on the same car and the same cover level, then adjust the excess. Everything else on this list saves less than that first step.

MethodWhen it helpsWatch out
Compare multiple insurersAlmost always — quotes on the same car vary widelyDo not compare on price alone; check the repair type
Choose third-party for older carsVehicles over 5 years old or low market valueYour own car is not covered at all
Increase your voluntary excessCan cut the premium noticeablyYou pay more out of pocket on every claim
Drop add-ons you do not useKeeps the price downDo not drop roadside assistance if you commute daily
Claim your no-claims discountAny claim-free period on your recordNeeds proof from your previous insurer — see how the no-claims bonus works
Pay in 4 instalmentsSpreads the cost across four monthsHelps cash flow, but does not reduce the total premium
Keep a clean driving recordOver time, renewal after renewalTraffic offences and black points feed into your renewal price
Choose a common car modelWidely sold models are cheaper to repairToyota car insurance and Nissan car insurance price lower than luxury or low-volume imports

Mistakes that cost Ajman drivers money

  • Letting the policy lapse before renewing — you lose the continuity that earns your no-claims discount

  • Under-declaring the car's value to lower the premium, which cuts the payout on a total loss

  • Buying agency repair on a car too old to qualify for it

  • Settling a collision privately instead of filing a police report

  • Renewing automatically with the same insurer without re-comparing

Documents required to buy car insurance in Ajman

  • Emirates ID

  • Valid UAE driving licence

  • Vehicle registration card (Mulkiya)

  • Previous policy details, for a renewal

  • Engine and chassis number, for a first-time UAE registration

Note: The same documents apply to an Ajman car insurance renewal.

How to make a car insurance claim in Ajman

File the police report first — no UAE insurer will process a motor claim without one. The rest of the process is the same across all seven emirates.

Step 1
Notify the police and get the official report
Do this at the scene, before the vehicles are moved
Step 2
Contact your insurer straight away
Most policies require notification within a set number of days
Step 3
Complete the claim form
Available from your insurer's website or app
Step 4
Attach the required documents
Police report, Emirates ID, licence, Mulkiya, damage photos
Step 5
Submit and wait for approval
Your insurer assesses the claim and confirms the repair route
Step 6
Take the car to an approved garage
Repairs must go through the network your policy specifies

Documents required to claim car insurance in Ajman

Having these ready before you contact the insurer is the difference between a claim settled in days and one settled in weeks:

  • The official police report

  • Your Emirates ID and driving licence

  • Vehicle registration card (Mulkiya)

  • A completed claim form from your insurer

  • Photographs of the damage

Frequently asked questions

Third-party liability starts from around AED 650 a year and comprehensive cover from AED 1,108. As a rule of thumb, comprehensive runs at roughly 2% to 4% of your car's market value annually. Your final premium depends on the car's value, its age, the repair type you choose and your claims history.

Third-party liability is the cheapest option, starting from around AED 650 a year. It covers injury and property damage you cause to others, but nothing to your own car. For a vehicle over five years old with modest market value, that trade-off usually makes sense. Newer or financed cars need comprehensive cover.

Yes. You can compare quotes, choose a policy and pay entirely online in about five minutes, using only your plate number and Emirates ID. The policy is emailed to you immediately and uploaded to the traffic system by your insurer, so it is valid for registration renewal straight away.

Comprehensive cover pays for damage to your own car as well as the harm you cause to others. That includes accident damage, fire, theft, and scratches and dents from a collision. Third-party liability under the same policy is capped at AED 2,000,000 for property damage and is uncapped for bodily injury.

Check the other vehicle's insurance status at the scene through the MOI app using the plate or chassis number, and make sure the police report records both policies. That report is what your insurer works from. Never settle a collision privately — without a report, most claims cannot be processed.

Methaq Takaful, Dubai Insurance, Oriental, Al Sagr and Sukoon all offer cover for Ajman-registered vehicles at competitive starting prices. Which is best depends on your car's age and your preferred repair type. Our guide to the best car insurance companies in Ajman compares them in detail.

Yes. Both third-party and comprehensive policies issued in the UAE are valid across all seven emirates, so an Ajman-registered car is covered in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. Cover normally stops at the UAE border — driving into Oman or Saudi Arabia usually requires a separate extension.

Yes. A valid policy is a condition of registration renewal in Ajman, and your insurer uploads it to the traffic system automatically. Ajman allows a 30-day grace period on the registration itself, but that grace does not apply to expired insurance — renew the policy first, then the registration.
